Three Cheers For Breast Milk

I have but two things on my mind right now. 1. Medela is most certainly Latin for hades. I resemble a dairy cow, constantly being pumped by a plug-in device. 2. How much sleep must one miss before delusion sets in? I actually tried to drink my own Medela-fied breast milk today. I must stop multi-tasking while running on three hours sleep. Don't attempt to get ready to pump your terribly worn out nipples and prepare coffee at the same time. Well, unless you want to relive the John Travolta Look Who's Talking scene like I almost did today.

And just let me toot my own (breast) horn for a moment. You're not a real woman until you can pump both breasts, bottle feed, and read Goodnight Moon while a five year old sits on your lap...all at the same time. Good times.

  1. I could tandem nurse twins and read a book to a 2 year old at the same time on no sleep - does that count? ;) I understand your exhaustion, Crystal. Hang in there - it'll get better. Mine did in just 5 years.

  2. Tandem nursing deserves its own award! :) That's a feat within itself. :)

  3. Watch out for your toes. I walked around exhausted and barefoot (I *am* from Kentucky, after all), and when running after a child (I had three itty bitty ones at one time) kept catching my baby toes on a leg of a couch. I broke one baby toe several times and had both broken at the same time, once. OUCH.

  4. Wow! You ARE super mom! I had a hard enough time with one kid nursing and pumping was never my thing. Good for you!

  5. Tragically, nursing was never my thing. i tried, i really tried, but my bubbies didn't want to give it up. I pumped too, and again, not much to report. BUT, i AM impressed with your ability to multi task as you did. Hang in there, it'll all get better soon enough.

Funny post -- my kids are older than you are, but it brought back memories (easy to laugh many years later ;>)).....it's all worth it, hang in there!
