If I was a horse, someone would've already put me out of my misery. My health is horrible and just getting worse, my kid is sick, etc., etc. I have a lot of tolerance for people's complaints and enjoy back and forth pity-party commentary except when it involves repeated excuses for your child.
I have a lot of cop-outs for myself, but I have nay a word to say about why I *can't* do for my son, because all that is is just cringeworthy.
It happens occasionally when I talk to an autism mom. I go over my mental powerpoints of suggestion, only to be met with melancholy excuses about how the diet is 'too hard' or how their child 'won't take medicine' or how they're 'afraid to give their kid a B12 shot'. Because honestly, in 15 years, when their child is a 200 pound, 6 foot tall man who's still throwing tantrums in Target, they might just wish they'd done more when he was young.
Now I know that some kids don't get better with biomed. I know of people who have tried it ALL and nothing has helped. But, at the end of the day, those parents can rest easy in the fact that they did all they could to help their child.
No excuses. No more regrets. Do what you can to treat your child's autism.
The End.

It must be difficult to be taking care of someone so young and dependent on your in every way - especially for their future well being, as you mention. Don't forget to take care of yourself, too! We as women often get very caught up in being the caregiver, and forget to baby ourselves from time to time.
ReplyDeleteVery true! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean! I know a mom with 3 autistic sons who won't do the diet because she likes junk food "too much" & just isn't that "disciplined", besides, her doctor told her it wasn't true. I often think about her in another 20 or 30 years when her 32, 34, & 38 year old sons beat the snot out of her because she didn't make their Mac n Cheese fast enough or "the right way.". Then she'll wish she got off her ass now.
ReplyDeleteYou remind me of my biomed doc, she's a hoot even though she doesn't curse with patients. plus she has an educational Yasko website & translated Yasko's work for anyone who wants it without charge. Anyhow, you go girl!
I am interested in finding out about the biomed doctor. I have friends who might be able to use her. :)
ReplyDeleteSorry. I haven't been online much with the craziness of the holidays. I'll copy & paste part of an email below that I got from a friend who told me about her but her name is April Ward-Hauge MS, NP, BCIM
ReplyDeleteHer website is www.autismnti.com
Email is autismnti@suddenlink.net
Office # is 530-559-6824
Here is the copy & paste part
April is an NP, or a nurse who went back to medical school also, like Lynn Redwood. She went to UC Davis (where Nurigenomics started) for her masters & NP & I think this is where she initially learned about genetics medicine. I first heard about her thru my next door neighbor, a family doctor, since she treats his son & wife. To tell you the truth, I wasn't that excited about seeing a nurse, nothing against nurses, I respect what they do but I wanted the very best for my family. A few months later, my dad's cardiologist (Male & East Indian) recommended her when I drove my dad to his apt for his final post-op heart check. I found out his son was autistic so asked him who he personally saw & he said she was "Brilliant, she can easily master anything she sets her mind to" and that he trusted her implicitly. I found out later that she treats a lot of doctor's & their families since many worked with her in the past & they say she's the best.
Where I come from, that means a lot since doctors tend to dismiss anyone who isn't part of the old boys club. Also, she's a straight shooter & tells it like it is & I love that! She says she went "Rogue" after being a "peddler for big pharma" in managed care for almost a decade yet my neighbor says she was a rare disease specialist and that all the doctors in her group actually referred patients to her. BTW, managed care is Kaiser, Sutter, & other HMO insurance over here in the land of fruits & nuts (California, but at least we're in Northern California) where they'd rather let you die than pay for anything!
Part 2
ReplyDeleteHer son was autistic & had PANDAS and her best friend had MS & she recovered them both. I like that she really gets where I'm coming from since she knows what detox is truly like as well as paying for all this sh*t! She says she went into this to give parents an alternative since she charges so little & always tries to streamline & cut cost on the supplements. She does telephone & Skype so no one has to travel & she gave me personalized diagrams with explanations that are all redone in easier ways so that I could really get them. I think she put these up on her website now. After only 6 mos we've made more progress with her than 6 DAN! Docs, 3 Naturopaths, & 14 mainstream physicians in 5 years! No doubt, she's been the best we've ever had AND for the least amount of money. I just hope she can stay in business because I know she doesn't charge enough, especially for the all the time she puts in on cases. I heard she's like Dr. Amy in that regard because she just wants to help and tends to give too much time away. My girlfriend's son is one of the most severe ever seen and she must have put in over 40 hours after his first visit to review everything and give my friend a full rundown of what she noticed, what she should do & how she could save money & the whole works but she only charged for the 2 hr visit @ $190/hr!! I've never seen anything like the write up she got since she gave so much away. My friend didn't need to follow-up for 4 months & when I later mentioned this to April she said she knew this but that she went into this medicine to "make a living helping people not off of people" so time will tell how long this kind of idealism will last or if she can make it in the business world but I think she is amazing. I know some don't like that she's translating Dr. Amy's diagrams & theories into easier tidbits for pateints & parents to learn about but I sure appreciate it! She got Dr. Amy's ok first and as usual, Dr. Amy was great about seeing the need for simpler stuff so said yes so that's all that should matter. There will always be those who think it should only be for the ones who have PhDs. She's also friends with Dr. Mullan & has nothing but good things to say about her so I trust her approach. She also has a link to Dr. Mullan on her site. I also think its great she'll do workshops for groups at low cost so people can all put in a little & get a lot more Someone said she has a biomed group in the mid-west somewhere that does this thru Skype so I hope to get a group together someday in my neck of the woods too. I think she has a bit of a waiting list right now since she was jammed the minute she opened her doors last summer. She won't just keep taking people withoutt spending the time she needs so she says she'll need to do this from time to time. I wonder how this affects her family life as well as business since I heard her husband is an everyday guy but so far he supports her in what she's doing. Not many of those around, certainly not mine!
Ok, I hope this helps someone else out there but we sure have been happy with her care.
Merry Christmas! It sounds like we have very similar family holidays instead of the sappy Norman Rockwell stuff & its refreshing to see someone say so instead of the politically correct crap we normally dish out! I love your blog, keep up the piss & vinegar girl!
Angela
Thank you for the information! I'll add that website to my blog list. :)
